Over the last few weeks, we have had to send many children and staff home to have a PCR COVID-19 test due to having COVID-19 symptoms. We would like to take this opportunity to send a big thank you to those parents who have worked in partnership with us and shown understanding in following the Governments COVID guidelines.
Please could you ensure your child always has a named sunhat with them at nursery? As well as a named sun hat could you please supply a named bottle of sun cream for your child to use at nursery if you do not want the nursery sun cream to be applied. The sun cream we use at Wonderland is; Ambre Solaire Factor 50.

Throughout the sunny weather the Wonderland team have lots of tricks to ensure the children remain cool throughout their nursery day. One of these tricks includes lots of water play! Therefore, could we also ask that the children have spare named clothes within their nursery bags?
Please could you ensure you are sending your children into nursery in clothing that is labelled and is not of great value. The children take part in lovely activities throughout their nursery day such as painting, mud play and water play. Our staff do their best to ensure all clothing is returned home to their owners, but things do go missing and on occasion clothing can get stained.
We will do our very best to locate missing items but please do bear with us whilst we are searching for the missing items.
Could we also take the opportunity to remind you all to please encourage your children to leave their toys at home. This is part of our COVID procedures to ensure germs are not being bought into the setting and to prevent the children in getting upset if their toy is lost at nursery.
The family centre is currently running a competition to win a set of Julia Donaldson books.

If you would like to enter, simply register with the Hertfordshire Family Centre Services by completing their online registration form at www.facebook.com/northhertsfamilycentres.org by 9th July. You will then be entered into the draw, and they will contact us directly to announce who has won the prize by Friday 16th July.
Exploring their new sensory tent and toys. The babies have shown interest in their light up egg and bell carousel as well as developing their knowledge of cause and effect. The babies have also been creating their special cards for their Daddies, splashing in the paddling pools, and building towers using a range of sensory blocks and mega blocks
Next week they will be
Creating ‘Groom Hats and Bridal Wands’ in celebration of a staff members wedding (Emma C,) exploring how they can use water to create marks on their chalk boards with their fingers and paint brushes and continuing to develop their communication development by sharing a variety of stories.
Taking part in body painting this week as well as exploring water play. The Toddlers used containers, spoons, jugs, and scoops to transfer the water from one place to another as well as using a range of objects such as blocks and bingo dabbers to create marks.
Next week they will be
Exploring wet sand to develop their knowledge of textures, interacting with a range of mechnainal toys to develop their understanding of cause and effect as well as practising some everyday routines such as bathing the toy babies and changing their nappies. During their garden play the Toddlers will also be going on a bug hunt!
Painting on a large scale outside when splatting paint at a large white cotton sheet to create a range of marks and patterns. Many of the children have been showing an interest in the herb garden and have been taking it in turns to water the plants. They have also been filling and emptying containers with pasta to develop their hand eye coordination.
Next week they will be
Creating our own dinosaur inspired coloured playdough. We will then create dinosaur patterns in the playdough using the dinosaur toys as well as creating our own playdough dinosaur models. We will also be taking part in music and movement sessions throughout the week which will also include exploring a range of instruments to celebrate world music day.
Our new topic is – ‘Following our children’s individual interests.’
Our Topic activities has been….
Developing our knowledge of dinosaurs and textures when exploring our dinosaur tuff tray, as well as sharing a range of nonfiction books about dinosaurs to explore a range of dinosaur facts. The children have also been playing ‘Guess the CVC Word’ within their key groups, acting out the story of The Gruffalo and identifying ‘words that sound the same’ (rhyming words.)
Our Phonics focus has been…
Developing our knowledge of phoneme sounds by singing the Jolly Phonic songs, searching for hidden phonemes in the water and sand trays as well as playing games such as ‘vanish your words.’ The children have also been consolidating their knowledge of familiar words such as their own names when throwing bean bags into a hoop labelled with their name.
Our Mathematical focus has been…
Developing and consolidating the children’s knowledge of matching numerals to quantity by using a range of toys to represent the numerals correctly, ordering numerals 0 – 5 and 0 - 10 when crating our very own number lines and exploring capacity in the water tray. The children have also been developing their social skills by playing small group Mathematical games, such as ‘Match and Count,’ and ‘The Game of Ladybirds.’
