Scarlet Fever, Strep-A & Norovirus Virus

We have had a confirmed case of Scarlet Fever within our Toddler and 2-3’s Age Group. If you would like some more information on Scarlet Fever please use the link below:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/scarlet-fever/

Norovirus:

We have received an email from Hertfordshire County Council regarding high number of Norovirus cases being reported in the community and outbreaks occurring in nurseries, and care homes.

Norovirus is easily transmitted through contact with people with the infection and any surfaces or objects which have been contaminated with the virus. Symptoms include sudden onset of nausea, projectile vomiting and diarrhoea but can also include a high temperature, abdominal pain and aching limbs.

What to do to stop the spread:

Exclude the infected individual until 48 hours after symptoms have stopped and they are well enough to return to their usual day to day activities. Encourage hand hygiene using soap and warm water.

Alcohol hand gels are not effective against norovirus. Clean and disinfect contaminated surfaces frequently using bleach- based cleaning products.

We currently have one confirmed case of Norovirus at Wonderland within our 3-5’s Age Group.

Conjunctivitis

We currently have children within our 3-5’s Age Group and 2-3’s Age Group who are being treated for Conjunctivitis.

Slapped Cheek

Slapped cheek is common in children and should get better on its own within 3 weeks. It’s rarer in adults, but can be more serious.

The first sign of Slapped Cheek is usually feeling unwell for a few days. Symptoms may include:

A high temperature.

A runny nose and sore throat.

A headache.

Children’s Identification Cards

Please can we ask all parents to attach their child’s Identification Cards to their nursery bags?

Each and every child who attends Wonderland should have an Identification Card for themselves. If your child does not have an identification card, please let a member of the Management Team know.

World Book Day – 2nd March

We are welcoming all children next week to dress up as a character from a story book that they love. The children are welcome to bring in their story book too but please make sure these are clearly named!

Please remember to not go out and buy expensive outfits or spend hours making an outfit! If your child has a fancy dress costume already, they could use this one or if they have t-shirts, or pyjamas already with characters on; these are very much welcome too!

The children are welcome to dress up right throughout next week.

The Babies have been...

Exploring a pancake tuft tray inspired by the favourite ‘pancake day’ they have been using various tools to scoop and transport rice, oats and shaving foam. The children have enjoyed investigating where objects have been hidden within the room and playing peek a boo with their adults. They have been developing their fine motor skills by taking part in free drawing with coloured pens/pencils creating an abundance of marks.

Next week we will be...

Creating pictures using daffodils as the mark making tool and incorporating coloured paint inspired by St David’s day as well as an all-yellow tuft tray. The children will be developing their imaginative play by continuing to explore their role play kitchen items creating cups of tea and meals for everyone.

The Toddlers have been...

Continuing to explore our Sensory Room, developing their understanding of cause and effect, as well as exploring textures such as crazy foam.

The Toddlers have been using brushes to give the animals a bath linked to the story of Dear Zoo and creating large mark making pictures using a variety of materials.

Next week we will be...

Creating flowers using our hands to explore making marks and exploring the stories of Goldilocks and Three Bears, Dear Zoo through tuff tray activities.

The 2-3's have been...

Developing their gross motor movements during their garden play whilst moving across the wooden planks. The children have also been using animals to stamp footprints into clay, exploring how objects can make marks as well as continuing to develop their imaginative play when interacting with small world animals within a textured tuff tray.

Next week we will be...

Exploring flower painting, going on a book hunt and developing their fine motor skills during their garden play by throwing bean bags into a target.

Pre-school – The 3-5’s

Our topic is – Following our children’s individual interests

Our Literacy focus has been…

Having a go at making marks in sand and developing our finger muscles whilst exploring daffodil play dough.

The children have also continued to explore the book - 'see inside your body'

Our Mathematical focus has been...

Playing imaginatively in our Ice Cream Shop, pretending to be the shop keeper and using Mathematical language when paying for the ice creams as well as identifying numerals on our till.

Our STEM activities this week have been…..

Continuing to develop their fascination in cooking by creating their very own pizza! The children used tools to cut their ingredients in half and groped these into separate bowls. The children then used their fine motor skills to create their own dough.

Once they had created their dough, the children used rolling pins and their hands to “make the dough flat!”

Finally, the children used spoons to spread their toppings all over their pizzas!

They looked scrummy and the children couldn’t wait to take these home to try.

Our Fascinations have been

Next week the

Pre-school (3-5’s) will be..

Developing our children’s fascinations in ‘our body’ by exploring key texts such as;

Sharing the story of ‘100 People’ to discuss what we can notice and what we can see.

As well as sharing a variety of non-fiction texts to develop our understanding and knowledge of facts about our body.

The children will also be exploring x rays of different animals, objects and people to again share their thoughts and spark discussions about our skeletons.

Thank you for your continuing support.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
