Our doors are always open. Corrin can arrange permanent session changes and Toni is able to book in extra sessions on your behalf. Changes to your child’s usual booking pattern, if your child is leaving Wonderland - bookings@wonderlandnursery.co.uk
We currently have a child within the 2-3’s Age Group who has tested positive for COVID-19. The child is being kept away from nursery for five days as they are isolating.
We also and a staff member who covers right across the nursery who has also tested positive for COVID-19.
We are changing the way we would like you to communicate with us regarding increasing, decreasing and requesting changes to your child’s permanent nursery sessions.

Childhood Illnesses Currently at Wonderland
Currently we have a member of the Wonderland Team who has Hand, Foot and Mouth within our 2-3’s Age Group, as well as a parent within our 3-5’s Age Group. We also have this week several chest infections within our Toddler Age Group as well as ear infections within the same age group.
However, we are pleased to say that we have had no new cases of Croup across the nursery.

You can join Hertfordshire Libraries from any age. If you know a child aged 0 to 5 years who is not yet a member of the library, please bring them along to your nearest library and sign them up. It’s totally
FREE and they will get their very own My First Hertfordshire Library card and certificate.
Exploring the inset puzzles, creating sensory towers to develop their hand eye coordination, exploring how to make marks using conkers and sticks, as well as using their hands and other tools to investigate the wibbly wobbly jelly.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt story tuff tray to develop our communication and vocabulary as well as taking part in a role play party tea using our teddy bears and toy babies.
Getting ready for the spooky season by exploring a Halloween tuff tray, learning new words such as pumpkin, bats and learning about sensory play. They have also been creating block painting pictures using coloured Duplo and identifying shapes and patterns such as squares and circles.
Next week we will be……
Exploring Halloween painting and an Autumnal tuff tray as well as playing football during their garden play.
Exploring the finger puppets this week to develop their communication and awareness of nursery rhymes, using the parachute during their Signing Sam session, investigating a dinosaur tuff tray and a variety of Halloween/ Autumn activities including leaf printing and searching for hidden spiders within their Halloween tuff tray.
Next week we will be... Continuing to explore Halloween and Autumn in a variety of ways. They will be creating their very own spiders, sharing the story of Room on The Broom and creating their very own witches’ hats.

Our Phonics focus have been… Literacy / Phonics: Aspect 3 – Body Percussion
The children will be singing a range of songs with actions to encourage body percussion throughout the song, such as ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes,’ ‘If your happy and you know it.’
We will also be identifying a range of environmental sounds whilst playing sound lotto. Such as ‘snoring,’ ‘sneezing,’ ‘telephones ringing’ whilst practising to use our listening ears.

The children have also been using their talking conversation toy phones to develop their speech and listening skills, creating marks on their new light up mark making board and developing their fine motor skills within our Playdough Area.
Our Mathematical focus has been...
Continuing to develop their number sense through subsidising using conkers and exploring pumpkins to see what they ‘notice’ what is the same, what is different as well as developing our vocabulary to describe the conkers such as tough, spikey, round, smooth etc.
We have also been exploring our conkers and pumpkins using our senses – touch and smell. As well as rolling the conkers through paint to create patterns. Some of the children have been going on Autumnal walks to see what Autumnal Treasure they can find!
Our Topic focus have been…
Listening to and exploring the story of Funny Bones by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. The children have then been identifying the beginning, middle and end of the story and even creating their own story. Some of the children have also shown interest in Harry Potter. Therefore, the children have been sharing the story of ‘There’s a Witch In My Book,’ by Tom Fletcher, creating their very own wands, exploring Halloween pasta, creating positions in our water tray and designing their very our ‘house crest.’
Finally, some of the children have also used broccoli to create their very own Autumn Tree pictures.

Our Phonics focus will be…
Literacy / Phonics: Aspect 1 – General Sound Discrimination – Environmental
The aim of this aspect is to raise children’s awareness of the sounds around them and to develop their listening skills.
At nursery the children will be completing a listening walk in the nursery garden and will be playing sound lotto to identify a variety of different animals by the sounds they make.

Our Mathematical focus will be…
Will be continuing to focus and identify what we notice is the same and different whilst exploring our Autumn Treasures. The children will also be exploring a variety of leaves looking at the patterns they can see.
Our topic focus will be...
Continuing to develop their fine motor skills by using the spray bottles within our Arts and Craft Area, creating our very own spiders and skeleton pictures using paint and straws to blow the paint.
